Savage mode: why getting roasted by your tutor actually works

Most language apps are relentlessly nice. Great job! Amazing! You’re on fire! Louddy can be like that too. But it can also be Savage.

In Savage mode Lou laughs at your mistakes. A wrong verb might get “That wasn’t the phrase. That was a cry for help. Again.” Getting it right gets “Correct. I’m as shocked as you are.”

It is a joke mode. And people love it.

Why a roast can work

  • It makes mistakes funny instead of embarrassing. When the tutor is clearly joking, getting something wrong stops feeling like failure.
  • It’s memorable. You’ll remember the verb you got roasted for.
  • It makes you want one more try. Nobody wants to end a session on a roast.
  • It’s shareable. Practising with friends? Hearing Lou roast someone’s accent is half the fun.

The rules of Savage

Savage laughs at mistakes, never at you. It’s never about who you are, only about that sentence you just mangled. And if it’s not your day, switch back to Normal, Grandma or any of the other moods with one tap.

Not into roasting?

Savage is one of 12 moods. Strict corrects every mistake with a straight face. Grandma is proud of you no matter what (with a little guilt). Gym Bro wants one more rep. Pirate makes bad grammar walk the plank. Meet all the moods and pick the one that keeps you talking.

Because that’s the whole point: the tutor you keep talking to is the one that works.
